"Several years ago I accompanied a field trip for 8th graders from my school to a transportation museum in Bangor, Maine. The social studies teacher leading the trip had arranged for our students to interview veterans of World War II to learn more about their experiences during wartime. The purpose of course was for our students to understand the cost of our freedom and the sacrifices these men and millions like them made for their country. I was fortunate enough to sit with a gentleman who had stormed Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Listening to his soft voice as he recalled some of the events of that day (He said some were still to painful for him to speak about), I couldn't help but feel great admiration for this man. With tears watering my eyes, I thanked him for his time and for all he did in that terrible war so long ago. I left that day changed with a new appreciation of my country and the men and women who serve to protect it. Watching Band of Brothers gave me the same lump in my throat I experienced that day. The series is simply one of the best movies ever made on World War II (Saving Private Ryan being the other). The story telling is amazing. The attention to detail is remarkable. The characters are well acted and make you feel as though you were a member of Easy Co. as well. The men of Easy do not think of themselves as heroes. I know they think the real heroes were the young men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice and never came home. This series shows us all that the survivors of that terrible crusade against evil are heroes as well. The men of Easy Co. are heroes in my eyes. I couldn't think of a better way to inform your children of World war II and "America's Greatest Generation". Bravo to HBO and all those involved. I know that future viewers will feel the 11 hour time investment in watching this mini series well worth it."

"I actually signed up for HBO just to watch this series when it first came out. Watching first episode, it was a little disapppointing as the actors were unknowns with just Schwimmer (who generally I find annoying) as the single known entity. Boy, was I wrong. After an epeisode or two EVERYBODY filled in their role very well (including Schwimmer) and now I think the casting perfect. The series is mostly fact-based (read the BAND Of BROTHERS and BEYOND BAND OF BROTHERS books and you will find what is artistic license) and thoroughly awesome, inspiring and captivating. You come away so full of admiration, gratitude, and respect for these actual soldiers (some of whom even get to appear at the end of each episode on camera) and gratitude to Hanks and Speilberg for having the good sense to make the series. This is an absolute must-have for anyone who has any interest at all in WWII western front history - and everyone should have such an interest.
