Grey's Anatomy is an American primetime medical drama. It debuted on ABC as a mid-season replacement for Boston Legal on March 27, 2005, immediately following Desperate Housewives.

The title of the show is inspired by the classic medical textbook Gray's Anatomy. The series revolves around Dr. Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, who began the show as a surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital in Seattle, Washington.

Grey's Anatomy is a hospital drama that focuses on Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), one of several first-year surgical interns at a Seattle, Wash., hospital. Along with her colleagues, Meredith struggles to maintain relationships while staying sharp at her new job.
The professional roles and real lives of a diverse group of surgeons collide unexpectedly in this Golden Globe-winning ABC television drama. As an intern at prestigious Seattle Grace Hospital, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) tries hard to live up to the reputation of her legendary surgeon mother while hiding the fact that her mom now suffers from Alzheimer's disease. As if life weren't complicated enough, Meredith also falls for her boss, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), a surgical resident recently relocated to Seattle from New York. Meredith's friend and rival Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) finds herself in a similarly taboo romance with Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Derek's chief competition for the title of chief resident. As for Meredith and Cristina's fellow interns -- Isobel "Izzie" Stevens (Katherine Heigl), George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) -- they've got problems of their own. Izzie doesn't want to be judged for her underwear-model past; Alex is better at bedding the ladies than bedside manner; and George can't get any of the women around him to see him as anything but a cuddly friend. All five interns answer to the roar of senior resident Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), affectionately known as "the Nazi." But even Dr. Bailey jumps to it when Chief of Surgery Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is on the scene. Although it was a hit from the time of its mid-season launch -- in a plum post-Desperate Housewives time slot -- on March 27, 2005, Grey's Anatomy had sat on the shelf for a year before it saw the light of day. Creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes received plenty of accolades for her color-blind casting, but it was Oh who earned an Emmy nod and a Golden Globe statuette for her work on the show's first season.

This Hit Show just gets better...

"I suppose no one ever thought that this "mid-season filler" would go on to become the sleeper hit of the year in its opening season. And yet it has gone on to win an Emmy for one of its stars (Katherine Heigl) and for its casting directors. Needless to mention the myriad nominations on all other major categories. In its third season, the high drama rages on as relationships between the characters solidify and become more fragile at the same time. New romantic ties are formed and old ones are broken or fractured. The acting just seems to get better and better, especially Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh (as Meredith Grey and Christina Yang respectively). These talented actresses are thrown into the depths of their complex characters and they come out triumphantly as fully three-dimensional characters that we will not soon forget. So much so that it is my opinion that audiences will forever have a difficult time separating these wonderful talents from their unforgettable characters. Hope Season 4 is still better than this! No pressure Shonda Rhimes! By the way, Shonda, you have been cheated it of that Emmy, gurl!!!!"

Greatest Show

"This is one of the best shows on television. It has everything, drama, comedy, romance. One minute you can be laughing your head off and the next the tears are just pouring down your cheeks. The characters are some of the most relatable people on t.v. something that you just don't find much of anymore. They have "real people" problems and "real people" emotions. And the greatest part is that it's set in a hospital which just opens it up to so many different kinds of stories that you just can't get if set anywhere else. I highly reccomend this show to anyone who is sick of reality tv (who needs to watch reality tv, just get up every morning and start living to have reality) and is looking for a show to just watch while relaxing and trying to escape reality, even if it's only for an hour."

The Show that we can't own

"Grey's is a medical drama with simulations of real medical conditions. Also a drama with real personal possibilities. That's what makes it so great you learn about medical conditions, treatments, and even death that can happen. All along the personal lives of the doctors and other staff are still going on while they provide the best care possible. I've worked in a hospital they couldn't get it any closer."

"For anyone that has ever watched this show, they know once you started watching it you couldn't let go. This show is brilliantly created. Even though this show is considered a drama, it is also hilarious at the same time. I recommend people who heard the hype about this show, that aren't currently watching it, should start watching it. This may be one of those girly shows, but even a guy, like me, enjoys watching this awesome show. The acting is great. I see why they won so many awards. BUY THIS DVD SET NOW, with all the other seasons too!!!"
